Here are twoestablished literary agents actively seeking clients. Maria Whelan is seeking literary fiction and upmarket women’s fiction, as well as non-fiction, revolving around peculiar or overlooked facets of society. Shari Maurer is looking for YA & MG - all subgenres, Non-Fiction YA & MG, including biography, New Adult, Narrative Non-Fiction, Parenting.

Maria Whelan of Mushens Entertainment

Maria graduated from University College Dublin with a BA in English and Drama then obtained her Masters in Modern Literature from the University of Edinburgh. With bright-eyes, she moved from Dublin to New York in the hopes of pursuing a career in publishing. Before joining InkWell, she worked as a Foreign Rights Assistant at Janklow & Nesbit and interned at Akashic Books. 

What she is seeking:  Maria is looking for: literary and upmarket fiction, speculative fiction, horror, magical realism and reimaginings of myths, fairy tales, and folklore. In the nonfiction space, she is looking for cultural criticism, narrative nonfiction, big-idea nonfiction, and select cookbooks and food writing. For short story collections, Maria accepts primarily literary fiction, collections with elements of magical realism, or speculative. With regards to novella, Maria is looking primarily for literary fiction, elements of speculative, or contemporary fiction. Regarding nonfiction, Maria is seeking narrative nonfiction and select memoirs, with a story that is either stranger than fiction or has a message that has the power to unify us.  She gravitates toward unflinching investigative journalism and urgent cultural criticism (Maggie Nelson, Susannah Cahalan, Jia Tolentino, Roxane Gay, and Patrick Radden Keefe). She is drawn to books about the environment and nature (Alexander Clapp and Amanda Little), (pop) culture, and overlooked and revisionist history. She also enjoys some cookbooks and food writing.

Shari Maurer of Stringer Literary Agency

Shari graduated from Duke University with a degree in English, and later studied Dramatic Writing at NYU. Following a stint at The Children’s Television Workshop on international productions of Sesame Street, she published both novels and non-fiction, and worked as a writer and editor. Shari has also written Parenting & Lifestyle columns for several websites. A mother of three, she lives in New York with her husband.
